“Power of an Endless Life”
What matters most in life? Perhaps we should begin with does anything matter- if so then what matters most? For a believer in the gospel everything matters, or should matter if one truly believes. For others without the ‘lively hope’ that tends towards life and health and well-being, everything is without purpose, here, now without eternal echoes, with remembrance only in this life. What is life? What is hope? What is joy? What is Truth?
The sanctity of life is not limited just to this reality, nor do we exist after we die merely in the remembrance of others or the pages of a book, or records launched into space, or even ultimately our consciousnesses transferred into a computer. You see, the search for immortality is at the heart of the quest of science- and this quest is a noble one, the conquering of death through technology, even through cloning, super computers, trans humanism, brain chips, A.I. and the list goes on, all of these being the epitome of humanism and mankind's attempt to escape the certainty of death. But in all the searching and reaching, consideration only is given to that which is material, and the glaring contradiction crying aloud in the streets, though seemingly in the silence of a vacuum, the question: ‘what is science doing to preserve the spirit, or consciousness or soul?’ They reckon in the field that the body needs to be replaced- but ignore completely power of the consciousness that they seek to transfer, that it needs no recharge, that the spirit doesn’t fade or weaken or die.
Observe from this perspective:

The quest to make the body live forever is dependent on the spirit or consciousness or soul to continue to function.. but what powers the soul? Perhaps the brain? No--because the brain is merely a vessel for the consciousness that is transferrable- so the evidence is clear that we are immortal beings, otherwise the quest to extend the life of the body would be futile if the soul had an expiration date as well. One would think this alone would cause people to seek the Source of life, the Creator of souls, the Architect of the Universe, not the science that is only capable of observing, manipulating, and postulating on what has already been accomplished in the Creation.
The Book of Hebrews elucidates us and guides us towards that Source—that which ‘everything lives and moves and has its being.’ Life is an extension of God. Even the ancient schools teach our existence is merely in the ‘mind of God.’ Yet we strive so much and search to discover those things material-we completely abandon the research into those things Spiritual.
“And yet it is far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisidec there ariseth another priest, who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the Power of an Endless Life.” (Heb 7:15,16)
The High Priest spoken of here is the same that tore the veil between man and God and reconciled all creation to become partakers in the immortality of the eternal union with God. Death was conquered 2000 years ago and Victory walked, and dwelled among us, His scars evidence of the overcoming of the grave. Jesus gave all humanity this power of eternal light and life, which we can even now begin to walk in, live in, and wield this power, here in this life, among the land of the living.
Cicero said
‘show me a man of courage and I will show you a man of faith.’
This witness is true, and the strength of belief can be tapped into in our everyday lives. It is the power of understanding we are an eternal being, gifted with life yet confined to these mortal vessels by which we either run this race with honor or in dishonor. The choices of people are clearly seen, evidenced in the adaptive nature of our vessels. Which is why Paul said let ‘your moderation be known to all,’ demonstrated in how we take care of bodies and how we “possess our vessels.”
For instance, a heavy drinker lacking moderation results in the ensuing breakdowns of bodily tissues, along with other physical and spiritual consequences. Another who exercises daily demonstrates a healthy physique as a result.
So as we become more aware of the Creator and of the Truth, we become more in tune even with the natural, as we learn that our bodies are ‘the temple of the Lord.’ A temple ‘not made with hands,’ or not made by man, but a tabernacle that houses the Presence of God, made by God. This is the Mystery spoken of by Paul, “of Christ in us.”
This is the substance and evidence of Faith, of things hoped for. Hope that the glimpse of eternity that God places in everyone of us all, is not fulfilled in the accomplishments of mankind, in its quest to extend the life of the body, but by the enlightenment of Knowing God, and possession of the Truth and the giving of the gift of love one to another.
The evidence of eternity is all around us and searching for the truth is the invitation for the Presence of Eternity to dwell in us.
“The Spirit bears witness with our Spirit, that We are children of God.”
The Spirit of God is hovering all around us constantly calling.
God help us to seek you first. God help us to not be distracted by this world neither be discouraged by this worlds limited knowledge. God help us not to fret over those who do evil, but help us to know that you are God, and it is because of the riches of your mercy towards us that your wrath is withheld. Help us to love another, just as your Son Jesus Christ has loved us, and to walk in forgiveness and in remembrance of you. God help us to possess our vessels with Honor, and to know that we have in us even now the courage to walk in the Power of an Endless Life, in Jesus name,
Amen.
